The Center for Global Politics at Freie Universität Berlin (CGP) offers non-degree certificates for professionals seeking to gain expertise in a chosen area of interest (CGP Certificates for Professionals). The certificates may serve as extra qualification, a springboard for further study or to enter a new job. They are an important professional credential for those working in an increasingly complex global environment. Master level specialization is gained at a smart pace without having to complete a full degree.
These terms and conditions apply to all services and offerings associated with the Center for Global Politics at Freie Universität Berlin’s Certificates for Professionals. The terms and conditions of any and all of our customers and suppliers are hereby voided and have no validity. Any changes or additions to these terms and conditions made before or at the time an agreement was reached must be confirmed in writing before becoming effective.
1. Conclusion of Contract

Once the registration is received and processed, the CGP student advisor will send the applicant a confirmation and an invoice by e-mail. The registration becomes legally binding by sending the confirmation and invoice. The participant thereby accepts the payment conditions outlined below. Invoices, which are sent up to 4 weeks prior to the program start, must be paid within 7 days. Invoices, which are sent at a later point in time, must be paid within 3 days. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the registration. All fees listed apply to individual registrations.
Admission will not be denied on the basis of race, ethnic or national origin, creed, gender/sex, religion, disability, age, or sexual orientation/identity.

Please note that participants are required to cover all transaction fees associated with such a transfer of funds.
Should the participant’s account, due to currency conversion or bank-specific procedures, show a minor amount still payable after the conclusion of the payment transaction process, the participant has to pay the remaining at the start of the course at the very latest.
3. Contents and objectives of the CGP Certificates for Professionals
The CGP Certificates for Professionals listings, contents, and objectives are published on our official website courses.global-politics.org. The selection of modules is the responsibility of each participant. We therefore advise the participant to take note of any relevant prerequisites, language level requirements, workload or other aspects of a module. Each participant should consider if the contents and objectives of a given certificate correspond with his/her needs and expectations and also whether he/she possesses the necessary prior qualification for a module.
CGP Certificates for Professionals teaching personnel is carefully selected in a rigorous screening and application process. CGP instructors must have demonstrated outstanding competence and experience in their particular discipline. Furthermore, Freie Universität Berlin guarantees that all modules, corresponding to their content, will be carried out in a professional manner and are in fulfilment of the stated objectives. The Academic Senate of Freie Universität Berlin reviewed and approved all academic program offerings. A module evaluation and assessment procedure is in place.
Each participant receives an official transcript after completing a CGP Certificate for Professionals. The transcript lists the title and contents of the module, its duration, the number of ECTS credits earned, and the grade.
CGP Certificates for Professionals are offered via an electronic learning management system. Participants receive access and then can study from wherever and whenever they are – provided they have a good and reliable internet connection.
Non-native speakers must submit proof of proficiency in the English language to be admitted to the CGP Certificates for Professionals. Acceptable proof is for example a score of 80 points (internet-based) in the “Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)”, level 6/7 of the “International English Language Testing System” (IELTS) or the “Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English”.
Cancellation of participation in the CGP Certificates for Professionals is possible in principle, subject to the following conditions:
Participants have to inform the CGP in writing about cancellation. In case of cancellation up to four weeks prior to the start of a given certificate, the participant receives a refund of the tuition fees, minus an administrative charge of €200 as well as eventual bank fees for the refund. No fees of any kind are refunded in case of cancellation less than four weeks prior to the start of a given certificate.
The Center for Global Politics at Freie Universität Berlin reserves the right to cancel courses with an enrolment of fewer than 2 participants four weeks prior to the start of a given certificate. Should such cancellation be necessary, the affected participants will be notified and informed about available alternatives. Should no solution be found, the Center for Global Politics at Freie Universität Berlin will refund all payments made so far.
5. Copyrights and Rights of Use
Within the scope of the CGP Certificates for Professionals, photos of the participants might be taken at events (workshops, excursions, teaching situations, farewell event, and special events if applicable). These photos are possibly distributed and/or published by the Center for Global Politics on the website courses.global-politics.org, on social networks like facebook as well as in print media for publication purposes and/or advertising purposes. Should a participant not desire any photos, it is his/her responsibility to inform the respective photographers commissioned by the CGP or the CGP team accordingly.
The Center for Global Politics at Freie Universität Berlin reserves all copyrights to any materials distributed to participants. No materials or content thereof may be copied, sold or used for third parties without explicit prior approval by CGP. Each participant receives all documentation and materials for personal use only.
Insofar as the CGP Certificates for Professionals participants submit photos to the CGP, the following applies:
Upon submission of photos to the CGP, the CGP Certificates for Professionals participants assure that these were created by themselves without the assistance of originator or ancillary copyright legally protected services of third parties. The participants assure that they can freely dispose of their photos in relation to the copyright usage rights.
If one or several individuals are recognizable in the photos, the persons concerned have to agree that the respective photo is made publicly accessible. The participants will confirm the preceding in writing on request by the CGP.
The participants further assure that through the utilization of the submitted photos according to the following provisions, no copyright, ancillary copyright, privacy or other rights of third parties are violated. Should any third parties still assert claims for infringement of their rights, the participants indemnify CGP against all claims.
By submitting photos, the participants grant for the respective photos free of charge non-exclusive usage rights to the Center of Global Politics at Freie Universität Berlin – unrestricted in terms of space, time and concerning the contents – for presentation purposes and/or advertising purposes in connection with the CGP Certificates for Professionals program.
The preceding use by the Center for Global Poltiics at Freie Universität Berlin is not guaranteed. Freie Universität Berlin is not obliged to make use of the photos.
The Center for Global Politics at Freie Universität Berlin has the right to be named as the source for the photos used within the scope of the granted usage rights, and the participants agree to waive a separate copyright or photographer notice.
6. Force majeure and acts of God
Cancellation of a course or other aspects of the CGP Certificates for Professionals as a result of illness, acts of God or otherwise unforeseeable events or developments may occur. In such a case, participants are not entitled to having such courses or other aspects take place.
7. Severability clause
If any provision of these terms and conditions is held by any competent authority to be invalid or unenforceable in whole or in part, the validity of the other provisions of these terms and conditions and the remainder of the provision in question shall not be affected.
Each participant agrees to the storage and use of personal data for the fulfilment of the agreement. Personal data storage protection is governed by Federal German Data Protection Act. Participants’ personal data will not be made available to third parties.
9. Place of jurisdiction
The laws of the Federal Republic of Germany shall apply to these terms and conditions, and the parties agree to Berlin (Germany) as the place of jurisdiction.
10. Online Dispute Resolution
Online Dispute Resolution in accordance with Article 14 , Section 1 of ODR – VO : The European Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution ( OS )/ provides that under http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
